About the role: We are looking for a new team lead for one of the teams within our Infra Platform Group. Your mission in this role is to architect and deliver foundational services that empower the product engineering teams building our e-commerce platform. Together with your team, you will be tackling challenging engineering problems, working on high-performing and scalable services written in Haskell and Rust, while also providing a high-quality developer experience for the teams that use them via Python. Your time will be split approximately 50-50 between leadership tasks and hands-on development. In your leadership role, you are a mentor to your team members, unblocking them when they face challenging roadblocks, and you help them grow both their hard and soft skills. As part of your hands-on work, you are contributing to the architecture and the ongoing development and maintenance of our services. You will initially be managing a team of four experienced Haskell and Rust engineers, and you will be working closely together with the other teams in the group, the engineering manager of the Infra Platform Group, and the stakeholders from other engineering teams that consume our services. Your responsibilities: Your Team Lead tasks will include: • Organizing the work and managing priorities

• Collaborating with the other team leads in the Infra Platform Group on the long-term roadmap

• Mentoring team members, helping them grow and holding half-yearly performance reviews with them

• Setting up project teams and mentor project leads

• Hiring new team members

• Implementing and improving upon our processes for the team

• Establishing the team culture and fostering a collaborative environment

Your Development tasks will include: • Designing, developing and testing new features in our services

• Improving the reliability and robustness of our application

• Working on scalability and performance improvements

• Collaborating with and review PRs of other engineers

• Breaking down big projects into smaller issues

• Writing clear and actionable issues

• Debugging and fixing issues, and teaching team members to do the same

• Working together with our product engineering teams and DevOps team on requirements and issues

Who are you? You like working in a dynamic team of skilled engineers, discussing technical decisions openly and collaboratively. It is easy for you to break down big issues into smaller tasks and to prioritize work pragmatically. To set you up for success in this role, we think you'll benefit from having the following skills and experience: • You have previous experience leading an engineering team, or you are an experienced engineer, excited to start your career as a leader.

• You can give detailed code reviews both from a high-level and a low-level perspective.

• You have the technical depth to help your team members grow and can remove roadblocks for them.

• You have substantial backend development experience, and you are skilled with Haskell, and ideally comfortable with Rust and Python.

• You are familiar with relational databases (ideally PostgreSQL), Linux and git.

• You have experience with web development, web technologies

Practical requirements: • EU citizenship or a valid work permit for the Netherlands; you are preferably already living in the Netherlands

• Available for at least 32 hours a week, with two days spent at the Utrecht office

What do we offer? • Gross annual salary ranging from € 77k-103k, including 8% holiday allowance and based on a 40-hour work week. This salary range reflects our career framework. Your final role level will be determined throughout the recruitment process, based on alignment with this framework.
