Job description

About the Team The Adoption, Innovation, and Transformation team within OpenAI for Government helps government organizations turn OpenAI products into durable capabilities and measurable mission impact. We work alongside public servants to move from initial exploration to confident, responsible, organization-wide use of AI. Our work combines hands-on enablement, adoption strategy, deployment support, community, content, and practical transformation tailored to government missions and operating environments. By translating the potential of OpenAI’s technology into better individual workflows, stronger teams, and improved public services, we help government customers deepen adoption, build lasting organizational capability, and spend more time on mission. About the Role The Enablement Lead, Government is a specialist role focused on delivering high-impact enablement and adoption services across OpenAI’s product suite. This role is responsible for designing and delivering experiences that support repeatable adoption frameworks, drive sustained activation, expand the breadth and depth of usage, and produce measurable value for government organizations. This role sits at the intersection of enablement, education, adoption, community, content, and customer experience. It blends strong product fluency, instructional design, customer advisory, and a deep understanding of public service. You will lead live workshops, deliver enablement programs, and design adoption interventions for audiences ranging from front-line public servants and technical practitioners to senior government leaders. You will be a trusted guide to government customers, helping them learn, share, teach, celebrate successes, and use AI confidently in their day-to-day work. You will help organizations understand not only what OpenAI’s products can do, but how to apply them safely and effectively while respecting their missions, operating environments, workforce needs, and responsibilities to the public. Success in this role means accelerating customer confidence, increasing product adoption, supporting successful launches and deployments, and helping government organizations translate product capabilities into tangible mission outcomes. You will own outcomes related to activation and sustained usage while helping shape how OpenAI enables and supports public-sector customers at scale. This role is based in San Francisco or Washington, D.C. We use a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. Travel and regular work from government customer sites are required. In this role, you will: • Own the enablement of OpenAI products, including ChatGPT Enterprise and Agents, helping define effective patterns for responsible adoption across government organizations.

• Lead government customers through the full enablement lifecycle, from initial onboarding and activation through expansion, optimization, and long-term adoption.

• Define and manage structured enablement and deployment programs with clear goals, milestones, owners, and measures of success.

• Design and deliver high-impact engagements—including onboarding sessions, advanced capability training, executive briefings, academies, hackathons, listening sessions, and hands-on mission or workflow labs—for audiences ranging from senior leaders to front-line staff.

• Guide government leaders, champions, technical teams, and working teams through organizational change by building confidence, establishing effective habits, and translating product capabilities into practical workflows and mission outcomes.

• Serve as a subject matter expert for designated products, roles, or government mission areas, building deep expertise and identifying emerging public-sector use cases for new product capabilities.

• Develop government-specific learning journeys, training materials, playbooks, FAQs, demonstrations, use cases, customer impact stories, and communications that enable high-quality adoption programs to scale.

• Provide timely education for product

• Advise government customers on workforce communications and engagement strategies that build awareness, confidence, participation, and sustained use.

• Build trusted relationships with government leaders, program owners, technical teams, champions, and front-line public servants, creating experiences that reflect an understanding of their constraints, motivations, and responsibilities to the public.

• Support government customer communities, events, and peer-learning experiences by keeping resources, discussions, updates, and thought leadership useful and current.

• Identify and amplify government champions, creative use cases, and meaningful customer outcomes that encourage responsible experimentation, recognize public servants’ contributions, and help other organizations learn.

• Partner closely with Sales, Customer Success, Solutions Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Delivery, Product, Global Affairs, Communications, Marketing, Readiness, and other teams to deliver cohesive experiences for public-sector customers.

• Gather and synthesize government customer feedback, adoption signals, participation data, and engagement outcomes to improve enablement programs and bring the voice of public servants back to Product and other internal stakeholders.

• Identify patterns across government customers and translate them into scalable programs, content, playbooks, and best practices without losing the human connection required to support public servants effectively.

You might thrive in this role if you: • Have 6+ years of experience in customer-facing, enablement, instructional, adoption, or transformation roles, engaging executive, business, and technical audiences in government or similarly complex enterprise environments.

• Understand and value public service and can build credibility with government leaders, program owners, technical teams, and front-line public servants.

• Possess exceptional presentation, facilitation, and communication skills, particularly when translating complex AI capabilities into clear, accurate, and practical value for audiences with different levels of technical fluency.

• Have experience designing learning journeys and leading workshops, training programs, executive engagements, customer events, or scaled adoption initiatives.

• Bring strong practical fluency and enthusiasm across ChatGPT, Agents, and the broader OpenAI product ecosystem, with an understanding of how AI can be applied to real-world government workflows.

• Are a versatile writer and storyteller who can turn complex information into useful and compelling training materials, presentations, demonstrations, communications, and customer stories.

• Can connect product capabilities and enablement activities to measurable outcomes such as activation, sustained usage, improved quality, faster delivery, reduced administrative burden, better decision-making, risk reduction, customer satisfaction, or mission impact.

• Can identify patterns across government customers and convert them into scalable systems, programs, content, and best practices.

• Are highly organized and comfortable managing multiple workstreams, adapting in live customer environments, and bringing clarity and momentum to ambiguous situations.

• Bring humility, empathy, curiosity, and a genuine desire to help public servants and colleagues succeed.

• Are personally committed to fostering the safe and responsible evolution of AI.
